Wonder Woman

Lynda Carter (July 24, 1951) is an American actress and singer. Carter was born Linda Jean Cordova Carter in Phoenix, Arizona. She attended Arizona State University, but dropped out to pursue a career in music. She toured as a singer with several rock groups before returning to Arizona in 1972.

It was at this time that Carter entered a local beauty contest and eventually achieved her first national fame by winning Miss World USA, representing Arizona. As the United States entrant in the Miss World pageant she reached the semi-finals. To capitalize on her recent success, Carter moved to New York and began taking acting classes. This led to roles on T.V. shows such as Starsky and Hutch, Bill Cosby's 'Cos' and B-movies including her only nude appearances in 'Bobbie Jo and the Outlaw' (1976).

Her big break came when she landed the starring role in the television series 'Wonder Woman', which aired from 1975 to 1979. Carter's earnest performance endeared her to fans and critics. Growing up an avid reader of the Wonder Woman comic books, Carter had found the role she was born to play.

In 1977 Carter married her agent Ron Samuels, who also represented Charlie's Angels co-star Jaclyn Smith and the Bionic Woman star Lindsay Wagner. They were divorced in 1982. Carter later married attorney Robert Altman in 1984. They reside in Washington D.C. with their two children.
